Band Camp 16/12/2011
Saturday, December 17, 2011

Went for symphonic band camp today! :) had sectionals on a piece titled "Variations on a theme by Paginini". One of my seniors told me that it was a piece meant for piano, which was very shocking. However, the melody really enticed me. Even though it was my first time sight reading it, I felt that I've heard this piece somewhere sometime before. Really hoped that I will be able to get a chance to learn this soon, despite with so many assignments to do.

Also, went for SOUND OF JAPAN2 concert by Philharmonic Winds. It was a relatively good concert, with the special guest makoto Tashiro, on taiko. After the intermission, the whole Esplanade concert hall lights were off, with a special entrance of Makoto Tashiro, and the conductor Douglas Bostock presenting the piece "Hiten Trilogy", which was a very unique experience. My guessed was that they wanted to have a eerie effect, as there were clarinets and oboes players placed among the midst in the concert hall playing high pitched sounds in pitched dark. Slowly, the lights came back, and there were the harp and pianist playing some random notes, with the conductor and taiko drummer playing the bells, as though they were the exorcists.
